The Vienna Circle exhibition in Berlin

The Vienna Circle exhibition in Berlin

After having visited Vienna, Prague and Warsaw, and having been on display most recently in Belgrade from September to October 2022, the Vienna Circle exhibition opened to the public at the Humboldt University in Berlin on January 10th 2023. The opening event was accompanied by lectures, as well as a conference on the Vienna Circle around Moritz Schlick und the Berlin Group around Hans Reichenbach as well as their key figures.

The Vienna Circle exhibition was originally created in 2015 for the 650th anniversary of the University of Vienna by Professor Karl Sigmund and Professor Friedrich Stadler, who have adapted the exhibition to its new location in cooperation with the organizers in Berlin.

The Vienna Circle was one of the most influential groups in 20th-century philosophy and has had a significant impact on many modern sciences, including information technology and engineering. The exhibition aims to show both the impressive intellectual achievements of the Vienna Circle and the complicated and gloomy historical context, which led to the dissolution of the Circle in the late 1930s.

The exhibition highlights a multitude of accomplishments of the Vienna Circle and the biographies of its members, as well as the topics they debated, people who influenced their work, and their academic activities at some of the most prominent universities in Europe. Join us to explore the Vienna Circle and all of the myths and facts around it. Travel back in time and visit Vienna as well as many other European cities and their academic worlds in the first half of the 20th century.

The travelling exhibition was presented in Berlin thanks to the efforts of the CENTRAL network. CENTRAL is a vital partnership between five renowned Central European universities: Berlin, Budapest, Prague, Vienna, and Warsaw. Amongst other endeavours, the goal of this network is to make the academic discourse of the CEE region more visible.

The Vienna Circle exhibition was on display at Humboldt University, Unter den Linden 6, 10117 Berlin, Germany from January 10th to February 20th 2023.
